If you’re gonna have an ignorant American attitude then please only stay on American posts. No one in North Europe has an AC in their houses. Stores, animal shelters, elderly houses, no one has AC. the houses are designed to keep the heat in. The people are not accustomed to the heat. A sudden climate shift like this is extremely dangerous to older people and babies specifically.

There are programs being run to inform elderly people what to do to not die in this heat. There was a heatwave in the Netherlands in 2010 in which approximately 500 more elderly people passed away than normally.

One thing people don’t often appreciate is that the southern US states are along the same latitude as the Middle Eastern deserts, rather than northern Europe. We’re not competing with Texas, we’re competing with northern Canada. If Saskatoon can’t handle Mexican weather, London can’t handle Middle-Eastern weather. It’s not built for it at all.

Japanese courts have a 99% conviction rate. In essence, if you are accused of a crime you are already considered to be guilty and it is up to you to prove otherwise if you can. Remember in the end of Persona 5, where the person who falsely accused you of assaulting them confessed to everything on national television but you were still in prison until your friends tracked down every witness and got them all the recant their testimonies individually? That was in no way exaggerated.

Also Japanese police have a 90+% rate of successfully arresting a “suspect” for every crime they investigate. At first this sounds really impressive, how they always track down the criminal, until you realize that they do it through a combination of refusing to investigate crimes which seem hard to solve or are likely to involve organizes crime or politicians (lots of “suicides” and “accidents” which are very blatant murder), and any time they do open a case but fail to figure everything out in the first day or two they just grab a convenient scapegoat (usually poor, frequently an immigrant or ethnic minority).

There are also very few restrictions on how long you can be “interrogated” for after arrest, or what they can do to you during the interrogation. Almost all the accused confess to everything... eventually. Regardless of whether they were actually anywhere near the incident in question.

I have one patient that was quite interesting in that he wanted to throw the breast tissue in his freezer and one year later, he wanted to pull it out and have a party and bury the boobs he never wanted in his backyard. And it's perfectly legal to do that, we just have to package it up in the right way. But, what a great way to celebrate your one-year man-niversary.

This is another thing that makes “men are trash” sentiments in queer/feminist communities feel wrong. Like, don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with venting about hardships relating to men or just bein funny. But it creates a lot of other problems. It creates dysphoria for trans men and beyond that, generally alienates men from communities that should be accepting them. And this isn’t helped by the fact that biphobia is increasing because of it. The amount of people who openly shit on their own attraction to men, particularly bi women, is troubling to me. This community should be about accepting your identity, not trying to reform it to fit in.
